Haven and Take Back the Road · Effective November 3, 2026

The short version

Who we are

Take Back the Road ("we", "us") makes Haven, a free web app that helps truck drivers find a legal place to park before their hours run out. This policy covers Haven at reservesafehaven.com, the family sharing page, and our home page at takebacktheroad.com.

What stays on your phone

Haven saves a few things in your phone's browser storage so it can pick up where you left off. They aren't sent to us:

Clearing your browser's data for reservesafehaven.com deletes all of it.

Your location

Haven asks your phone for your location so it can show where you are, find parking on your route, warn you about closures ahead and check whether you'll make your planned stop. This happens on your phone. Haven doesn't send your location to our servers, except for family sharing (below). Your phone asks before Haven gets your location, and you can turn location off in your phone's settings anytime.

To do its job, Haven uses a few free public map services. They receive only what's needed for each request, and they never get your name:

ServiceWhat it receivesWhy
OSRM public routing server (Project OSRM)Your starting point and destination, or your planned stopWorks out your route and drive time
Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation)The place you search for; your rough location to name the town you're inFinds places and town names
OpenStreetMap map tilesThe map area on your screenDraws the map

Like any website, these services see your internet (IP) address when your phone contacts them. Road alerts work differently: our server fetches each state's official road work feed and Haven asks for it by state, not by your location.

Voice

When you tap the mic, Haven uses your phone's built-in speech recognition. On some phones and browsers (for example, Chrome on Android) the phone's maker processes the audio to turn it into text, under that company's own privacy policy. Haven only gets the text, uses it to answer you, and doesn't save it or send it to us. Haven's spoken replies are made on your phone.

Family sharing (only if you turn it on)

Family sharing lets people you choose follow your trip from a private link. It's off by default. When you turn it on, Haven sends our server:

Anyone with your link can see your current location, your recent route, the states you've been in, your stops and your miles. They can also send you short notes, which you see only when you're stopped. We keep your location history for 60 days, then delete it automatically. In Haven you can pause sharing (family then see only your name), get a new link (the old one stops working) or erase your history and notes anytime.

Invited testers

While Haven is being built, a few drivers test it with a private tester link. Only on those phones, Haven records the test drive route and any voice notes the tester records, with a written transcript, so we can fix problems. Nobody else is ever recorded. Tester recording will be removed before Haven's full launch.

Other websites

Haven links to other sites, such as Google Maps for directions and Pilot, TA, Truck Parking Club and SecurSpace for reserved parking. When you open one, that company's privacy policy applies. We don't send them your information.

Hosting

Our sites run on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your IP address and basic request details to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. We don't use these to track you. Haven loads its fonts from Google Fonts and its map library from cdnjs (Cloudflare), so your phone contacts those servers too.

What we never do

We may disclose information if the law requires it, for example a valid court order, and only what's required.

Your rights

You can ask us what information we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us at the address below. Family sharing data is tied to your phone's private key, not your name, so tell us the name you used and roughly when, or use "erase history" in Haven. We answer within 45 days. Some states, such as California and Texas, give their residents these rights by law; we give them to every driver. We won't treat you differently for asking.

Children

Haven is made for adult professional drivers. It isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Security

Our sites use encrypted connections (HTTPS). Family sharing links are long random codes, and the link family get can't change your settings. No system is perfectly secure, so share your link only with people you trust.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your location or personal information, we'll tell you in Haven before it takes effect.
